Cotton Classic is here

It’s a summery yarn kind of month here at Twisted World HQ. Already this month, we’ve added two gorgeous Lang yarns for the summer (Seta Tweed and Sol Degrade), Cotton Fleece from Brown Sheep Company, and now this: Cotton Classic from Takhi Stacey Charles.

Cotton Classic is a 100% mercerized cotton yarn, DK-weight, and the colors are pretty amazing. We’ve got 24 colors to start, and we’re super excited to see what you all come up with. There are over 8400 projects on Ravelry, ranging from sweaters to bags to dishcloths to dresses, to…you name it, someone has likely made it in Cotton Classic. Baby and kids garments seem to be particularly popular. All in all, it’s a stellar cotton yarn. But, don’t take our word for it – come on in and see for yourself. Start making those summer projects, folks – it’s really, truly, kind of, almost here!

Cotton Fleece from Brown Sheep

You know what I’m getting sick of? My East-Coast friends and family bragging about the gorgeous weather they’re experiencing, while we all find ourselves trying on new rain boots (not that these aren’t the coolest rain boots the world has ever seen, but come on, Mother Nature, give us a BREAK!)…The bright side? It’s been absolute perfect crafting weather. No hot laps from knitting or crocheting with wool here in the Pacific NW.

But, anyway, nice weather will be here soon-ish, and Twisted is getting ready for it by bringing in warm-weather yarns. One of our recent additions is yet another great work-horse yarn from Brown Sheep Company, Cotton Fleece. This year-round, DK to light worsted-weight yarn is a blend of crisp cotton for comfort and merino wool for softness and elasticity. Cotton Fleece produces garments that retain their shape, and is available in a wide range of colors.

New Yarns from Lang

We met with one of our reps about a month ago, and fell in love with some of the yarns from a line we hadn’t previously seen – Lang Yarns. We brought in 3 yarns to start, and are itching to start our own projects with them all. These are the two summer-y yarns we’ve received – we have an exciting lace-weight to share with you at a later time, as well.

Seta Tweed is a fabulous blend of (mostly) silk and cotton (75% silk, 25% cotton). It’s a light, sproingy tweed, perfect for sweaters, in a super-versatile DK-weight. You get 109 yards per 25 gram ball. The colors are to di(y)e for.

Sol Degrade is soft, squishy, and oh, so much fun! With a long color repeat, this is the perfect yarn for warm-weather garments or one-skein projects. It’s a 100% cotton tape yarn, and knits up at an aran gauge. You get 218 yards per 100 gram ball.

Berroco Vintage is here

We’re so happy to share one of our newest yarns, Berroco Vintage, with you. This machine wash blend features a wide color range, an incredibly soft feel and yardage that goes on and on. Its unique fiber blend makes laundering a breeze and perfectly suited for easy care garments for both children and adults. In three weights (Vintage DK, Vintage Worsted and Vintage Chunky), we’ve really got you covered. Vintage is a 50% Acrylic, 40% Wool, 10% Nylon blend, and is machine washable. It’s recommended that you lay flat to dry. At $8 a skein, it’s a great deal (yardage is 288 yds/100g for DK, 217 yds/100g for Worsted and 130yds/100g for Chunky).

Malabrigo Finito :: limited-run yarn!

Finito is Malabrigo’s once-a-year fingering-weight yarn. Once a year lambs are sheared of their coat, and once a year Malabrigo is able to go in and purchase the cream of the crop. You really do have to feel it to believe it. I mean, I thought Malabrigo Sock was soft. Finito knocks that out of the park! And, in 50 gram skeins (at $15.25 each), you can even do something stripy and special! We have a limited amount of this yarn in stock, and once it’s gone, it’s gone. We’ve got all 21 colors of this gorgeous yarn, so get in here soon to pick your favorites!

45° North

We are super duper excited to share this news with you all: Twisted has our own yarn line! We’ve partnered with Melanie from Black Trillium to create a fairly solid line of fingering-weight yarn. It’s available in 2 put-ups: 100 grams and 50 grams. Great for colorwork and large projects (one customer already snagged a bunch of colors to make a Babette Blanket!)

Why 45° North? Well, because that’s Oregon’s latitude (relatively)! The yarn is inspired by this fantastic state we live in, Oregon. We have 25 colors to start, and have plans to expand the line already. Hanging on our sock yarn wall, it’s really the most beautiful sight. What a collaborative effort! We worked with Melanie to come up with the perfect colors (you should have seen the fantastic bag of mini skeins she provided for us to choose from – oooh, lala, that girl has an EYE for color!), Vivian and Emily named all of the colors and Vivian designed the gorgeous logo. The whole crew brainstormed a name for the yarn, and everyone has been consulting on the tag design and display. Marcia shot the stunning photos, and now we are pleased to share the fruits of our labor with you, our customers.

Arroyo!

The long wait is over, because we got a bunch of Malabrigo’s stunning Arroyo this week! Arroyo is a fabulous yarn, smack-dab between Rios and Sock. The same twist, the same softness, many of the same colors, in a sport-to-DK-weight yarn. Yummm…

Arroyo is a great choice for lots of different projects — colorwork, baby and child’s garments, and clothing and accessories that will be well worn and loved. You can be confident that this yarn will show off stitches, cables and still pop out of your washer and dryer vibrant and gorgeous!

Blissful Knits

We’re pretty excited to be working with a new-to-us Indie Dyer, Blissful Knits and Dyeworks. Right now, we have one of her bases, Inspire, which is an 80/20 Merino/Nylon Blend. Her colors are fantastic, this base is superduper soft, and we are falling head-over-heels for Raya and what she does to yarn.

Inspire Sock by Blissful Knits is $20 a skein. We don’t have her colors listed on our website, so coming into the shop is really your best bet, but if you’d like to order some on our website, click on over and let us know what color familes you are interested in.

All of Blissful Knits and Dyeworks yarns are hand dyed in Raya’s small fiber arts studio right here in Portland. She employs different painting and dyeing techniques and loves to experiment with color. Raya specializes in fine and luxury yarns and makes every attempt to locate US based fiber suppliers.
