You know what I’m getting sick of? My East-Coast friends and family bragging about the gorgeous weather they’re experiencing, while we all find ourselves trying on new rain boots (not that these aren’t the coolest rain boots the world has ever seen, but come on, Mother Nature, give us a BREAK!)…The bright side? It’s been absolute perfect crafting weather. No hot laps from knitting or crocheting with wool here in the Pacific NW.

But, anyway, nice weather will be here soon-ish, and Twisted is getting ready for it by bringing in warm-weather yarns. One of our recent additions is yet another great work-horse yarn from Brown Sheep Company, Cotton Fleece. This year-round, DK to light worsted-weight yarn is a blend of crisp cotton for comfort and merino wool for softness and elasticity. Cotton Fleece produces garments that retain their shape, and is available in a wide range of colors.

Fiber: 80% pima cotton 20% merino wool
Weight: Dk to Light Worsted
Gauge: 5 sts/1″
Needles: US 6-8
Weight: 100 grams
Length: 215 yards (197 meters)
Care: Hand wash. Dry Flat.
Price: $9.75

We’ve got a great sample in the shop in this yarn, too. The Effortless Cardigan from Hannah Fettig, knit by the mastress of sample knitting, Sarah P.

Luckiest little girl in the whole world! And the most adorable model you could imagine for these stunning crowns from a free pattern on Ravelry, knit in Brown Sheep Lanaloft Worsted and Bulky, and decorated with felted baubles (our favorite new little crafty notion!) and lots of creativity.

Thanks so much to Katje and Vivian for taking the time for our photo shoot! Guest appearances by Carat and Nugget, who Vivian calls “the Pig Dogs”. She’s as smart as she is cute, folks.

Here’s a question we’ve been getting a lot lately. “What in tarnation is up with Addi Turbo Click vs. Addi Lace Click vs. Addi Long Tip Lace Click vs. Addi Bamboo Click tips and cords?! Are they compatible? If so, why are the cords marketed separately?”

For once in life, the answer isn’t as complicated as you might fear! Here’s the deal:

All Addi Click tips and cords use the same locking mechanism, so in that sense they are compatible. BUT the tips themselves are different lengths. For that reason, they require different length cords to make any particular size circular needle.

Please note that if any of the below links to our web store don’t work that means we are temporarily out of stock of that item.

The original Addi Turbo Click tips are apprx 5″ long. So to make a 24″ long circular needle, you’ll have two 5″ tips = 10″, which means you need a cord 14″ long to end up with a complete needle that’s 24″. Addi Bamboo Click tips and Addi Long Tip Lace Click tips are both apprx this same size.

The Addi Lace Click tips, on the other hand, are apprx 3.5″ long. That’s apprx 1.5″ shorter per tip, which means 3″ shorter overall when the tips are combined into a needle. So, the cord needs to be 3″ longer to make up it. 3.5″ tip + 3.5″ tip = 7″ in tips. To get a 24″ needle, that means your cord has to be 17″.

In other words, an Addi Turbo Click cord advertised to make any length of complete needle will be apprx 4″ shorter than Addi Lace Click cords advertised as making that same length. The cords are different lengths to offset the different tip length.

The reason for making the Lace Click tips shorter was to enable the creation of 16″ and 20″ circular needles. The longer Turbo Click tips and Bamboo Click tips can’t accomplish this – there would be too much tip and too little cord to make a circle out of your “circular” needle. Only the shorter Addi Lace Click tips can pair with the shortest 16″ and 20″ Addi Lace cords to make 16″ and 20″ needles that are useable.

Because shorter needle tips are less comfortable for some knitters, Addi has now released Long Tip Lace Click sets, which have tips that are the same length as the original Turbo Click Sets – apprx 5″.

In addition, the Long Tip Lace Click cords are the new Lifeline Cords! Each cord has two eyelets near each end. If you thread waste yarn through these holes, you can add a lifeline as you knit with zero extra effort. The eyelets stay closed and unnoticeable when you’re not using them. And the case is pink!

We’re now taking PREORDERS for the Long Tip Lace Click set and offering $10 off for a limited time only!

I hope that helps explain Addi Click tips and cords to you. Please feel free to email us if you have any questions!

This shawl was originally published as part of Twisted’s Shawlette Club in November 2011. Now it’s available to everyone either in our shop or on our webstore!

Designed by Chrissy Gardiner of Gardiner Yarn Works.

This nature-inspired shawlette features three different lace leaf motifs and is named after Mt. Mazama, the ancient mountain that exploded to form southwestern Oregon’s spectacular Crater Lake. Your finished object will be just as stunning!

This design has several fun details: a knit-on border, a subtle swallowtail shape with two points at the bottom edge instead of one, and a small peak at the back of the neck. Worked as written, this petite shawlette uses a single skein of sock yarn. However, it can easily be expanded into a full-size shawl with extra yarn simply by adding additional pattern repeats.

We’ve had great new teachers and classes added to our repertoire, including the super-popular Tunisian Crochet (we’ve got one coming up on January 7th, from 12-3pm, and there are still a few slots left). Tunisian Crochet may just be the next big thing, folks.

Amazing new products, like the phenomenonal Madelinetosh, in an ever-expanding line (we now carry Tosh Merino, Tosh Vintage, Tosh DK, Tosh Merino Light, Tosh Prairie and Tosh Sock. We are quite sure we’ll be adding more and more of this yarn in the coming year.

We met the super-lovely Sarah from Plucky Knitter at the fantastically fun Sock Summit, and started working with her, carrying her knock-you-on-your-booty Primo Fingering and Worsted. This yarn is pretty flipping fantastic – a great ply, a soft yet firm hand, and such a wonderful softness…

We’ve got new things from old favorites, like the awesome, gorgeous and useful knitting mugs from our friends Jampdx. Meghan and Jenn gifted Emily and I each with one, and, even though we have a million and two coffee mugs at home, I find myself washing my hand-thrown Jampdx mug pretty much every day, just so I can enjoy my morning coffee in this fabulous piece of art.

And, as a reminder, we are open regular hours today (9am-8pm), so if you need any of these items, or anything else for that matter, come on by! We have hot tea, comfy couches, friendly staff, and the best darned yarn in the universe!
