Calling all crocheters- got a project you need help on? Our newest crochet class is a lot like our “knitting studio”: you can bring in anything you like and get as much (or as little) help as you need!

Pick-a-Project Crochet
$20 per session with Elaine Marcus
Need help with a crochet project? Elaine’s your gal! Sign up for as many sessions as you want or need and bring your project in for personalized help, whether you’d like assistance from beginning to end or just a little troubleshooting.
Date/Times: Saturdays, March 17, 24, 3-5pm (sign ups are done individually for each session.)
Materials – please bring your own: The pattern you would like to make and the necessary yarn and hook.
Prerequisites: Must know crochet basics- for absolute Newbies, please check out our Learn to Crochet class.

Learn to Crochet

So maybe knitting’s not for you (blasphemy, I know! But sometimes it’s true!) Or maybe you just want to add a snazzy new fiber skill to your repertoire (and some cute crocheted flowers onto your knits!) Either way- Elaine’s back with another Learn to Crochet class!

Learn to Crochet / Crocheted Flowers
$30 with Elaine Marcus
No prior crochet knowledge needed! Class project is small crocheted flowers.

Materials: Size H Susan Bates Quicksilver crochet hook
Includes: Yarn for project, TNNA Learn to Crochet booklet

Tunisian Crochet is Back!

We can barely keep up with the demand for Natalie’s Tunisian Crochet class! Good thing we just added two new dates to the schedule: January 7th and February 11. Call soon, these slots fill up fast!

Beginning Tunisian Crochet
$30 With Natalie Kilkenny
Some call Tunisian crochet a marriage between knitting and crochet. Tunisian crochet produces a lovely and very sturdy fabric that can be used for many objects including garments and home decor such as pillow covers, coasters and place mats. Tunisian crochet projects are a great way to get rid of extra balls of yarn in your stash.
Date/Time: Saturday, Jan 7, 12-3pm
-OR- Saturday, Feb 11, 10am-1pm
Materials: A Tunisian crochet hook preferably size I US; Sturdy or non-splitting yarn to practice with at least worsted weight, larger if you’re using a bigger hook (no novelty yarns such as fur or boucle please); the 400-450 yards of the appropriate gauged yarn for your hook; a tapestry needle.
Prerequisites: Must be able to chain & single crochet.
Skills learned: Use a Tunisian crochet hook to make 4 different stitch patterns; Create entrelac type fabric with Tunisian crochet; Create a Tunsian crochet scarf with a sampler of different stitches

What is Tunisian Crochet? Why, it’s a fascinating variant of crochet that uses a very long needle that holds a whole row’s worth of stitches (sound familiar?) and creates a beautiful texture. Like so:

Purple Hat Parade!!

Emily had this great idea to give another push to the Purple Hat Campaign: take a quazillion photos of the resident baby in some of the hats we have received at Twisted. Vivian shot, Astrid modeled, Star did a goofy dance in the background for a bit, and we were all once again amazed at the generosity of our sister and brother crafters…

All hats are due either to Twisted or to Legacy by the 26th of October, so you’ve got a bit of time left…let’s all work together to ensure all babies born in November in the area get a purple hat, and their parents get information about the Period of Purple Crying and prevention of Shaken Baby Syndrome…

Inspiration follows (sure, I’m a bit biased, but isn’t she the cutest thing you ever did see?)…

Learn to Read Crochet Charts – Oct 15, 10am-12pm

Have you ever seen those weird, spindly drawings in a book of crochet patterns and though “well, that would be a cool tattoo, but what IS it?”

That, my friend, is a crochet chart! And unlike those stodgy, graph-paper knitting charts, crochet charts are free to doodle around the page, while still packing just as much information. But they can be rather confusing if you haven’t learned how to read them- which is where our class with Elaine comes in!

From our class schedule:

Befuddled by the cryptic drawings in your crochet patterns? Be fuddled no more! Elaine will teach you to read these crazy looking charts like a champ!
Date/Time: Saturday, Oct 15, 10am-12pm.
Materials: Students will need to bring some smooth, worsted weight yarn and a size F or G hook. Charts and handouts will be provided.
Prerequisites: Students should be comfortable with basic crochet stitches (this is not a learn-to-crochet class).
Skills Learned: Why, how to read a crochet chart, of course!

The class is $20, and is a great next step for a beginning (or even not-so-beginning) crocheter who wants to start working from some fancier patterns! You can sign up by dropping by the shop, giving us a call at 503-922-1150, or emailing us at class@twistedpdx.com.

We left the shop Friday night and all was normal. We arrived on Saturday morning and what to our wondering eyes did appear…

Who needs a stinkin’ sleigh and any number of stupid tiny antlered mammals? We got a yarn bombed tree! It is the most beautiful, beautiful, beautiful crocheted tree cozy that there ever has been and ever will be. We are madly in love with it AND its mysterious creator Commuknitcation. Thank you!!!

Addi Click Crochet Hook Sets

We are super excited to share the newest member of the Addi Click family with you all, Addi Click Crochet Hook Accessories! This accessory set contains 8 hooks ranging from a 3.5mm to a 9mm hook. All are brass with the exception of the 8mm and 9mm, which are the gold-flecked plastic. These 8 hooks come in an envelope case similar to an addi Click case. These hooks are ACCESSORIES. Thus, they do NOT come with a cord. They are meant to be an accessory to those who own a Click set. The hooks can be used for various purposes, including casting on, binding off, picking up stitches, etc.

Can they be used for Tunisian crochet? The good news is YES! They can be used for Tunisian crochet. Skacel is in the process of having stoppers made for this purpose, but they are not available as of yet. They are in production and are expected end of February. They are shaped like a heart (cute!) and are very light weight. These stoppers, when available, can be used for other purposes as well.
