The location was Budapest, Hungary and the pattern was EZ’s Baby Surprise Jacket. Cathy wins a copy of the BSJ pattern and a hand made set of stitch markers from Hungary that look like tiny little nesting dolls. Cathy – please email me (emily at twistedpdx dot com) so we can get you your prizes when I get home!

Thanks to everyone who played and shared their memories of Budapest. A gorgeous place – though it was almost 100 degrees while we were there. Whew. Quite a thing for a gal used to Portland!

Now let’s play some more Where in the World is Emilyshmemily!!!!

Here are the rules (note slightly different from last week!):

If we’re friends and you actually straight up know where I am, sit on your hands and give someone else a chance.

The prizes are pretty rad (I think). A crafty souvenir from this place AND a copy of the pattern in question. I’ll even pay for slow as molasses shipping if you live in the US or Canada. (When I get back to the States!)

First person to post on this blog post with the correct answers to all of the questions below wins the prize!

Name the city I’m in, the *specific* monument and *specific* spot/title of this part of it that I’m at, and what is wrong with my BSJ in the photos below!

I had to tear out quite a bit of my BSJ… Can you spot the reason why? (Just saying I don’t pay enough attention doesn’t count!) Even if you haven’t worked this pattern you could be able to see why. I don’t need a specific line number – just the basic description is fine. Note that you can click on the pics to see a bigger version.

Time to name the Booby. Twisted’s resident Blue-footed Booby, that is. He/she has been hanging out, making friends, but has had no name. It’s time, people! We created a poll on our Facebook page, so hop on over there and vote (and, if you haven’t "liked" us on FB, this would be a great time to do so!)

How did we arrive at the 4 final names? We asked for submissions a few weeks ago, the Twistedistas voted on their favorites, we listed the top 4, and here we are. Now, the final decision is up to you all!

The contributor of the winning name will receive a Lantern Moon crocheted cake key chain to celebrate with as well as a copy of the ‘Feathers‘ pattern by Chris de Longpre (Knitting at Knoon Designs) to knit up your very own Booby.

The poll will close Sunday night, so get to voting!

If you’ve been in the shop lately you probably noticed one of our newest additions, the adorably personable Blue Footed Booby that our Sorren knit up for us. People just can’t seem to resist him and his bright blue feet, and you may even spy some staff members whiling away a few minutes in his winsome company.

So now we have a BFB as our BFF we really need to give him a name! And that’s where you come in, dear members of our community, we need your help. Send your name idea to info@twistedpdx.com, with the subject BOOBY!!! and the contributor of the winning name will receive a Lantern Moon crocheted cake key chain to celebrate with as well as a copy of the ‘Feathers‘ pattern by Chris de Longpre (Knitting at Knoon Designs) to knit up your very own Booby. Or flamingo, or peacock, or the whole flock! You have between now (April 11th) and close of business (8pm PT) Friday, April 29th to submit as many times as you wish, so come on in, get acquainted with our (woolly) feathered friend and let the names start flowing!

Claudia’s Hand Painted Yarns is hosting a Shawl design contest called Shawl the Love (cute, huh?). (Follow the link to downloadable pdfs with contest rules and entry forms).

There are fabulous prizes, for both the designer AND the yarn shops!

Entries must be submitted by July 1, 2011.

Winners will be announced and prizes awarded at Stitches East 2011.

There are 4 categories:

1. Wow me with Yarn – Feel free to use an existing pattern and color outside the lines. Make it your own, but feel liberated from the need to write a formal pattern and instructions. You can even create your own unique unrepeatable design. This is the category for anyone who wants to knit but feels intimidated by the need to document their work with a formal pattern.

2. Original Design – Write your own pattern, design your unique shawl. In this category we are looking for designs with patterns. This is the place to share your creative nature with many others, allowing them to duplicate your shawl and share the shawl love with countless others.

3. Fresh Eyes – Artisans 14 years and younger. Welcome to the next generation of knitters, crocheters, weavers, give us a glimpse of the future. Your designs can be original with a pattern, or utilize an existing pattern as a base.

4. Professional – If you are paid to knit, crochet, weave etc, teach classes in these skills, or sell yarn, you are a professional for the purposes of this contest. This is your category and your skills and creativity are eagerly anticipated. Your designs can be original with a pattern, or utilize an existing pattern as a base.

So what are you waiting for? Start designing!!

On Saturday, October 16, 2010, ten of today’s hottest hand-dyers will debut unique, limited-edition colorways designed for knitters who know their obsession is not just a craft, but an art. Yarns on Stage has partnered with select yarn shops, including TWISTED!! across the U.S., Canada, France and the U.K. for this one-day release. We will have, just for you, a party to celebrate the awesomeness of Yarns on Stage, AND we’ll have the sock samples, AND we’ll be giving away a cute little black sheep named Sidney.

We’re now taking PREORDERS for this yarn!

As an added bonus (or two), Debby and Stevanie from Pico Accuardi Dyeworks, which is headquartered right here in lovely Portland, Oregon, will be on-hand for shmoozing and chatting from 10am – 1pm. We’ll have some snackies and juice, too. We carry Pico Accuardi‘s gorgeous sock yarn right here in the shop, and love everything about them. They dye using natural dyes AND acid dyes, which lends a lovely depth to their colorways.

AND, we are fortunate enough to have gotten our hands on all of the sock samples for Yarns on Stage, so make sure you spend some time checking them out, too.

So come in to Twisted on Saturday, October 16th, to join the festivities!!!
