Knitted Wire Bracelet

Take your knitting to the jewelry realm and learn to knit a dazzling bracelet with wire! Silver wire is surprisingly pliable and fun to manipulate. In this class you will learn how to work with wire in new ways and knit yourself a bracelet. No previous wire experience necessary.
Date/Time: Thursday, Feb 16, 6-8pm
Materials – either bring your own or before/during class get 20% off on: 100 yards of artistic wire 26 or 30 gauge in copper, brass or silver, toggle finding of your choice. Optional: 20 – 50 seed beads size 6 in your color of choice.

Pretty cool, right?

Silver Bling!
$20 With Karie Galvin
Looking for that special finishing touch on your hand knit project? Come design and create some hand crafted bling for your string. Use the simple process of molds and stamps to create your one of a kind gem with pure silver clay. Pieces are dried and then fired in a kiln at the end of class.
Date/Time: Saturday, Feb 11, 1:30-3:30pm
Materials: $20 material fee payable to teacher includes use of over 135 design stamps, pure silver clay and allows you to create one of the following: 1 large piece, 2 medium pieces, 4 small pieces or 1 medium and 2 small pieces.
Skills learned: Working with precious metal clay.

Entrelac is a neato, faux-basket-woven effect you can achieve in your knitting with a little fancy short row action. The word “Entrelac”, I believe, comes from the French word for “cool looking and much easier than you think.” Something like that, anyway.

Come learn this fascinating technique with the entrelacingest gal we know, Ms. Michele Bernstein!

Entrelac
$20 With Michele Bernstein
It looks so complicated, but it’s simpler than you think. You’ll learn all about base and finishing triangles, side triangles, left and right leaning rectangles, and best of all, how to purl back backwards without turning your work. Amaze and astound your friends, look clever, and knit up a pretty piece of interlaced knitting! We’ll knit a sample piece that you can continue as a scarf or sew up to use as a small bag.
Date/Time: Monday, Feb 6, 6-8pm
Materials – either bring your own or before/during class get 20% off on: 240 yards worsted or DK weight yarn with a long slow color change, like Crystal Palace Mochi Plus, or two coordinating colors of worsted weight yarn. 16” circular needles in the appropriate size for your yarn (It will be easier to learn with a thicker yarn.)
Includes: Athena Cowl pattern by Michele Bernstein. (We will NOT be working on this cowl in class, but it will be a great next step for your new entrelac skills!)

Brioche Stitch

Want to learn the secret behind the lovely looking brioche stitch? This class will cover the basic technique involved in brioche, and also provide you with an easy beginner brioche pattern to help you practice this new stitch.
Date/Time: Saturdays, Jan 28 and Feb 4, 12:30-2:30pm
Materials: Worsted weight yarn and needles to match. You will need yarn for practicing the brioche stitch, and also yarn for your hat.
Includes: “Heartbreaker” pattern by Alexandra Tinsley.
Homework: Please do a stockinette stitch swatch in your hat yarn before class.

Intro to Circular Knitting/Basic Hat

Walk on the Wild Side: Using hand-dyed yarns
$30 With Star Athena
What are you going to do with all of that vibrant and crazy hand dyed yarn? This workshop will teach you how to use wild, bright, hand painted and/or variegated yarns to yield the best results. We’ll talk about pooling, flashing, striping and all of the other effects of hand painted yarns. We’ll focus on stitch patterns that highlight the yarns well, and learn techniques to change the effect of a single yarn.
Date/Time: Thursday, Jan 12, 5-8pm
Materials: Wild sock yarn (several if you have them, solid if you have that) and several needles in different sizes. The size you usually use for socks and a size larger and a size smaller. Pen or pencil for taking notes.
Homework: with smallest needle, CO 40 (50, 60) sts (40 for DK yarn, 50 for sportweight, 60 for fingering). Knit 4 rows flat in garter stitch. Join to work in the round and knit 1/2″ in plain stockinette st.
Prerequisites: Students should have knitted at least a few pairs of socks before trying this class, and should be comfortable with the basics, knitting in the round, and reading a chart.

Introduction to Spinning on a Wheel

Get to know these delightful machines and learn to work with them to create the yarn you want. We will sample a variety of fibers and techniques. No experience necessary, but intro. to spindling is a plus. Kids welcome (with adult if 8 or younger).
Date/Time: Sundays, Jan 8 and 15, 9:30-11:30am
Tools: A limited number of loaner wheels are available on a first come, first serve basis. All others will need to bring their own wheel (please provide the make and model when registering.)
Materials: A fiber starter pack will be provided at the first session. Additional fiber is available to purchase, and feel free to bring some with you.

Beginning Tunisian Crochet
$30 With Natalie Kilkenny
Some call Tunisian crochet a marriage between knitting and crochet. Tunisian crochet produces a lovely and very sturdy fabric that can be used for many objects including garments and home decor such as pillow covers, coasters and place mats. Tunisian crochet projects are a great way to get rid of extra balls of yarn in your stash.
Date/Time: Saturday, Jan 7, 12-3pm
-OR- Saturday, Feb 11, 10am-1pm
Materials: A Tunisian crochet hook preferably size I US; Sturdy or non-splitting yarn to practice with at least worsted weight, larger if you’re using a bigger hook (no novelty yarns such as fur or boucle please); the 400-450 yards of the appropriate gauged yarn for your hook; a tapestry needle.
Prerequisites: Must be able to chain & single crochet.
Skills learned: Use a Tunisian crochet hook to make 4 different stitch patterns; Create entrelac type fabric with Tunisian crochet; Create a Tunsian crochet scarf with a sampler of different stitches

What is Tunisian Crochet? Why, it’s a fascinating variant of crochet that uses a very long needle that holds a whole row’s worth of stitches (sound familiar?) and creates a beautiful texture. Like so:
