Skill Level: Advanced Beginner

Description: Learn to make adorable, seamless baby booties which mothers love because they actually stay on! This is a great quick knit and a wonderful use for leftover sock yarn.

Materials: Printed copy of pattern “Christine’s Stay-On Baby Booties” which can be found for free at here, at least 100 yards of fingering weight yarn, set of 5 size 2.75mm double pointed needles, tapestry needle.

Homework: Before class, cast on 11 sts (yes, really, even though the pattern says 10 sts) using your preferred method and work 36 rows in garter stitch. Leave work on needle and bring to class.

Skills Learned: Picking up stitches, short-row shaping, I-cord.

Baby Surprise Jacket Class

Knitting Goddess Elizabeth Zimmermann’s classic one-piece pattern. There’s a good description of it at Knit Wiki. The construction is non-traditional, clever, practical and all around entertaining. Plus, there’s an adult version that this class can serve as a warm-up for. One of the few patterns you’ll ever follow that asks, “are you still with me?” Top photo from Knit Wiki. We here at Twisted recently learned this technique and were hooked. Get it? Hooked. Ha.

No prior crochet knowledge needed! Class project is granny squares. Granny Squares are great elements for making afghans, or for adding to other projects as embellishment. After learning basic crochet stitches, we will practice them while making Granny Squares. We will talk about ways to join the squares up so you will have the skills to make a larger project from the squares.

I-cord Wonders
$20        with Daniel Yuhas

Put simply, I-cord is a rope-like tube of knitting made without turning the needles. But it’s so much more than just an overgrown string. In this class we’ll learn how to use I-cord as a cast-on, a side-to-side edging, and a bind-off. And we’ll leave plenty of time for play and discovery as we explore the wonderful, freeing, and easy-to-create shapes we can make from this unassuming little tube.

Date/Time – Monday, May 21, 6-8pm

Materials – either bring your own or before/during class get 20% off on: Smooth Worsted or Bulky weight yarn in a 2 solid colors, 1 skein of each. A set of four or five double pointed needles, made of wood, bamboo, or plastic, size 9 or 10.

Bring the kids in to make some really special Mother’s Day gifts! Karie Galvin of Silver Purl will be in the shop for a drop-in fingerprint necklace studio. Come make the mother in your life a gift she will cherish forever – her precious little one’s fingerprint cast into precious metal clay to create a beautiful silver pendant! Our silver clay artist Karie will guide you through the process of making a fingerprint impression. She will then take those molds to her studio and create your pendant with those molds. Your fingerprint jewelry will be ready at the shop for pick up on Saturday May 5th.

Cost: $95 for one print
$170 for 2 prints
$250 for 3 prints
Includes a sterling silver necklace and gift wrap

In addition to these beautiful necklaces, your kids will have the opportunity to make other crafts for mom including: buttons, magnets, pom-poms, and more! For these non-silver-pendant crafts, there is just a $10 materials fee.
