This means you’ll have an extra week to check out some of the garments from this lovely book, and receive a 10% discount if you purchase it!

Knitwear designers Alana Dakos and Hannah Fettig are two friends living on opposite ends of the United States. They have come together to produce Coastal Knits, a compilation of ten fresh designs inspired by Alana’s California and Hannah’s Maine coastlines.

Each design captures the essence of their favorite local destinations, and is accompanied by photographs and essays on the location’s special meaning to the designer. It is a personal, inspiration-based collection of sweaters and accessories that knitters of all levels will appreciate.

Regularly $22, Coastal Knits will be 10% off both online and in-store during the trunk show.

Oh, em, gee, we are so excited about Judy Becker’s new book, Beyond Toes for so many reasons! Let’s just list them for you:

1. Judy Becker is a Portland treasure, and this book is a labor of love for her. She is THE Judy, you know, the one from the Magic Cast-On? Yeah, THAT Judy.

2. There are many fantastic designers highlighted in this book, and lots of them are local..oh, my goodness! So many friends! So many Pacific Northwesterners! Check out the Ravelry page to see all of them, or, better yet, snag a copy of the book for yourself!

3. Vivian shot all the photos! Yes, OUR Vivian! The uber-talented Spindleshanks. The fabulous designer, photographer, and Twistedista. HOW EXCITING!!

4. We are hosting the Trunk Show October 31st through November 6th, so you can try on garments, pick out yarn, and even, on Sunday, November 6th, rub elbows with Judy and all those local designers. Details TBD, so check back soon.

Sure, the publishing industry ain’t what it used to be, and e-readers are getting more popular every day, but there’s really something to be said for holding a fantastic knitting book in your hands, flipping through the pages, maybe even marking with a post-it that next must-knit sweater or pair of socks…

This week, Twisted is prepared to help YOU expand that knitting library by offering our awesome 25% off Sale of the Week prices on all books in stock, and that includes:

Regular book-y books

Pattern booklets

AND books already on clearance. In other words, clearance books are an additional 25% off their already 20% reduced prices! If our math is right, that works out to 40% off original prices

Sale prices are valid Monday, July 4th through Sunday, July 10th.

Because we are closed for the 4th of July Holiday, the Sale of the Week will be online ONLY on Monday, July 4th (you can order items for in-store pick-up, though!), and in-store AND online Tuesday, July 5th through Sunday, July 10th.

Remember, SOW’s are limited to stock on-hand, and are a first-come, first-served kind of basis. We can’t do special orders on Sales of the Week, so come early for the absolute best selection. Also, please note that this sale does not apply to single patterns or to DVDs… just to real, book-y books.

According to the Chinese calendar, 2011 is the Year of the Rabbit, during which time great peace shall ostensibly reign throughout the land. From the fiber perspective the year of the rabbit begins with a papal decree in 600 A.D. and eventually tumbles into hundreds of French monasteries, where the Angora rabbit made its first leap into domestication.

A quick post on an awesome new book that is selling like MAD – Charts Made Simple.

Knitting on paper: that’s what a chart is. Symbols take the place of stitches, forming a picture of knitted fabric.

Charts Made Simple explains how this picture unlocks the secret of understanding charts, teaching knitters how to read charts and how to make the most of them: to make sense of the symbols in a chart without being overly dependent on its key, to use charts as guides for minimizing and recovering from mistakes, and to handle chart quirks—“no stitch” symbols, repeated stitches, changes in stitch count, and more—with ease. Copious examples clearly illustrate key points, and at the end of each chapter, a concise summary and a set of exercises cement the lessons learned.

When you open this book, you enter the classroom of a talented and experienced knitting instructor who shares her knowledge in six well-organized chapter-lessons, each focusing on key aspects of successful chart reading. JC Briar’s book, Charts Made Simple, provides a progression of clear, step-by-step tutorials and is packed with visuals—some of the best I’ve ever seen—to illustrate the concepts. You will be happily and confidently knitting from charts in no time! – Margaret Fisher, author of Seven Things that can “Make or Break” a Sweater

As someone who writes, proofs and publishes patterns for sale I am over the moon thrilled about Charts Made Simple. If you can only buy one knitting book this year, make it this one. – Tina Newton, owner of Blue Moon Fiber Arts
