From Eden on Knitmap, 3/11:
Visited them recently on the 2011 PDX Knit Crawl! My sister and I visited all twenty stores in two days! Twisted has quickly become my LYS, even if other stores in the area are closer. I always find yarn I can’t live without and they are so amazingly helpful! The staff is just amazing, even on the craziest of days.
I give them my “Most likely to be your LYS” award, because seriously, I can’t even express how great I find them to be. They also have a good selection of spinning fiber, and amazing local and handmade accessories. I think my only complaint is that their super cute brown shirt with a green ball of yarn on it doesn’t come in my size, but that’s not a complaint is it, but a bit of envy and lust.
From jc m. on Yelp, 3/11:
I adore this shop. The staff are very friendly & helpful and never pretentious. The sock yarn selection is the best in town and they carry many other yarns in an array of fibers and gauges. Prices range from really inexpensive to handspun treasures. You’ll find a boatload of Blue Moon in the corner (which is rare since not many shops stock it) and a wall of sock yarn. The rest of the shop is packed with everything else and really friend people to show you around, answer questions or help you find a pattern (of which there are many–and well organized at that). The space is open & well lit with big windows so you can see the colors in each and every skein. Tea is available to sip on while you’re shopping or knitting on one of their comfy couches.

Hands DOWN the best yarn store in Portland.
I have decided that knitting store employees are much like wine connoisseurs. Many are snobby, high, and mighty. You will not meet these people at Twisted. They are unpretentious, welcoming, and helpful.
I am one of those knitters who sees a pattern but decides to only take “suggestions” from the pattern. This has gotten me into trouble more than once but the staff at Twisted are always ready to help.
They also have a nice offering of classes that are priced much more reasonably than other LYS classes. The couches are comfy. The tea is soothing. The yarn is plentiful…. And I feel like they really value their customers!
From Lisa, 4/12/10, whose yarn broke when she blocked her shawl (ack!):
I really wanted to thank you so much for your wonderful customer service. I have told the story to all my knitter friends. They all agree that Twisted really “gets it” the most out of all the LYS in town…. I really am super grateful for your support and you have truly made a life long customer!
From Carroll, 1/08/10:
Thanks for your help. And I must add that I really love coming into your shop. I always feel welcome and every one is very helpful and knowledgeable and generally so dang positive. It is just a good feeling to be in there.
From Sandy, 12/1/09:
I must tell you how much I love your shop & how much I love your employees even more. I live in Tacoma, WA & get down to Portland a couple of times a month. My daughter thinks it’s because I’m visiting her but really it’s so I can get in trouble with you.<
A couple of months ago you saved me from a near tragic yarn miscalculation/emergency. You had the skeins I needed & instead of making me wait patiently (not my strong suit) for my next visit, you mailed me my drugs/yarn in a nano second. Knitting withdrawl can be so painful & ugly.
My only complaint is that Your darn shop models seem to call my name whenever I set foot in your shop. I discovered both Michelle Bernstein & Sivia Harding's patterns through you. And darn it, you have so many great yarns (dream in color & alpaca with a twist my current addictions) that I find myself buying 2 & 3 different yarns for the same project. Luckily, the patterns are so fun and easy to knit I never feel guilty about giving up sleep to finish one project so I can start the next.
So just keep doing what you're doing so I have a nice place to leave all of my dispoable income & I'll see you soon!/blockquote>

From Joyce, 7/27/09:
Your clerk Star gave me good advice on blocking and showed me several books on finishing seams etc. That’s kind of embarrassing because I have kntted for so MANY years but haven’t done many sweaters. The result is perfect; and when I was ready to leave for an appointment, my car was blocked in tightly back and front and she guided me away from the curb safely. These are more resons why Twisted is my favorite yarn store.
From Samantha, 9/28/08:
From the minute I walked in, I had a great experience. Shannon greeted me like an old friend, but still allowed me to shop at my own pace. The selection of yarns is smaller than the first store I went to, but more thoughtful—everything is a gem in its own right and everything gives the sense of having been carefully chosen. There were several yarns that I’d never even heard of—and… that’s pretty hard to do. The environment is warm, open and friendly. I wanted to just hang out for hours and Shannon made me feel like that was just fine by her.
I was charmed by everything, from the open layout and easy-to-use arrangement of product, to the eclectic collection of tea mugs (love the vanilla honeybush, by the way!), to the comfy couch where I sat and drank tea and knitted. Honestly, it’s probably best that you’re not so close to my home… Not only would my husband miss me, I’d probably need to just sign my paycheck directly over to you guys!
I ended up spending a tad bit more than I’d planned on yarn… but I couldn’t be happier with either the product or the store, and I’m glad to support an LYS that is clearly such a gift to the knitting community. I’ll definitely be back the next time we’re in Portland.
Thank you so much for making an out-of-town knitter feel right at home. I’ll tell every knitter I know about Twisted.
