Show the World!

Want to learn to take super-fantastically-gorgeous pictures of your knitting to share on Ravelry, your blog, or whatever-else-have-you? Our photographic artist-in-residence (that would be Ms. Vivian) will be teaching her duo of photo classes this fall to help you do just that!

(Pssst- did you know Vivian did photography for this upcoming book? You are learning from a pro here, peeps. This gal knows how to make those stitches shine.)

You’ve got two options:

Show the World:

With the booming growth of Ravelry, blogs and Etsy shops, and increasing number of people are facing the challenge of presenting their products to the public through photographs. Learn how to navigate this brave new world and avoid the common pitfalls of amateur photography so that you can take pictures that are every bit as beautiful as the things you make. This class covers basic lighting techniques, camera use, creative display and an intro to lightbox construction!

Date/Time: Sunday, Nov 6, 10am-1pm

Materials: camera (digital is preferable but not necessary), camera manual if you have it, USB or card reader for hooking your camera to a computer, and an item (or two or three or…) to photograph — this can be yarn, a knitted/crocheted project, or any other object that you want to experiment with!

Price: $30

Or, if you’ve got a Digital SLR to play with:

Show the World with your DSLR:

All the same essential topics will be covered as in the basic Show the World class, but tailor-made for the nuance that a digital single-lens reflex camera offers you. This class is for the photography neophyte who really wants to expand their mastery to create the photos they intend. Bring your manual and spend some time with your camera before class to familiarize yourself with how to access your ISO settings, white balance, shutter speed and aperture. Bring something to photograph, a laptop computer (if you have one), your computer-to-camera cord and a sense of adventure!

Date/Time: Sunday, Oct 9, 9:30am-12:30pm
